Earth Day

By Rebecca Dickinson

Today, 22nd April, is Earth day. It is a day for celebrating the planet that we live on and also, a day for action. Starting 22nd April 1970, Earth day has been a day to raise awareness about the way we are treating the planet and the beloved species and places that are on it.

This year’s theme for Earth Day is environmental and climate literacy – so it’s all about spreading the word, and talking about what we can do to protect the environment and help halt climate change.

The European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) recently ran a campaign focusing on climate action – you can find out the facts and get some great ideas for what you can do to help on their website.

How can you get involved?

  • Spread the word – use the hashtag #Earthday
  • See if there is anything happening in your community and see how you can get involved.
  • Find out more at the Earth Day website.
