Common marmosets are members of the Callitrichid family, a group of tiny monkeys from South America, including marmosets and tamarins.

We have two female common marmosets, who joined us in January 2016.

Our common marmosets are waiting to go into their new enclosure, which has been built in our historic arboretum.

How you can help marmosets in the wild

Although common marmosets are not listed as threatened, the are affected by habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade.

You can help marmosets by:

  • Buying ethically sourced items, such as Rainforest Alliance Certified products
  • Not buying exotic animals such as monkeys as pets
