FAQ’S

How do I get there?

Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park is located in Askham Bryan College, near Copmanthorpe.

The college is located near to a bus stop for the 840, 843 and 845 buses, all of which stop at York Railway station.

You can find directions to us here.

How can I pre-book?

You can pre-book for our packages or events by e-mailing or telephoning us. We're often out and about in the wildlife park, so we recommend an e-mail rather than a phonecall, as we're not always near the phones.

General Admissions tickets can be purchased on the door, where you will need to sign in - but do check our opening dates and times, as we have limited opening hours.

When are you open?

Thw wildlife park is open all weekends and also during college holidays (check our opening times page for more information on our opening dates).

We are not open during term time, as this is when the college facilities are used for student teaching!

Is the site accessible for visitors with mobility difficulties?

Our indoor buildings are accessible and we have an accessible toilet in the main building.

Outside the paths around the meerkats are accessible, but the geocell root protection system which is used to protect the trees in the arboretum is packed with gravel, so this path can be a bit hardgoing in some places. There is also one set of pavement lips that cannot be removed due to their proximity to our Hungarian oaks - these are fairly shallow but might be difficult if people are using manual wheelchairs.

Can I bring my dog?

We regret that we do not allow dogs into our site, as many of our animals might be distressed by the presence of dogs.

We do permit service dogs in some areas, but ask that you contact us prior to visiting with a service dog, so we can make a decision about access to areas on a case by case basis.

Can I bring a picnic?

You're welcome to bring a picnic to eat on the picnic tables in our arboretum. Please do note, however, that only food purchased in the Hive Cafe can be purchased there, and there are very limited indoor facilities for picnics.
